الإنشقاق

The Sundering • 25 Ayahs

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ

Itha assamao inshaqqat

When the sky has split [open]

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

And has listened [i.e., responded]¹ to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ

Wa-itha al-ardu muddat

And when the earth has been extended¹

وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ

Waalqat ma feeha watakhallat

And has cast out that within it¹ and relinquished [it].

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

And has listened [i.e., responded] to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ

Ya ayyuha al-insanuinnaka kadihun ila rabbika kadhanfamulaqeeh

O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion¹ and will meet it.²

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ

Faama man ootiya kitabahubiyameenih

Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا

Fasawfa yuhasabu hisabanyaseera

He will be judged with an easy account

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا

Wayanqalibu ila ahlihi masroora

And return to his people in happiness.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ

Waamma man ootiya kitabahu waraathahrih

But as for he who is given his record behind his back,

فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا

Fasawfa yadAAoo thuboora

He will cry out for destruction

وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا

Wayasla saAAeera

And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا

Innahu kana fee ahlihi masroora

Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ

Innahu thanna an lan yahoor

Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allāh].

بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا

Bala inna rabbahu kana bihi baseera

But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever, of him, Seeing.

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ

Fala oqsimu bishshafaq

So I swear by the twilight glow

وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ

Wallayli wama wasaq

And [by] the night and what it envelops

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ

Walqamari itha ittasaq

And [by] the moon when it becomes full

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ

Latarkabunna tabaqan AAan tabaq

[That] you will surely embark upon [i.e., experience] state after state.¹

فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Fama lahum la yu/minoon

So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩

Wa-itha quri-a AAalayhimu alqur-anula yasjudoon

And when the Qur’ān is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allāh]?

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ

Bali allatheena kafaroo yukaththiboon

But those who have disbelieved deny,

وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ

Wallahu aAAlamu bimayooAAoon

And Allāh is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

Fabashshirhum biAAathabin aleem

So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ

Illa allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati lahum ajrun ghayrumamnoon

Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.
