The Emissaries • 50 Ayahs

وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِ عُرْفًا

Walmursalati AAurfa

By those [winds] sent forth in gusts

فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِ عَصْفًا

FalAAasifati AAasfa

And the winds that blow violently

وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِ نَشْرًا

Wannashirati nashra

And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]

فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِ فَرْقًا

Falfariqati farqa

And those [angels] who bring criterion¹

فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا

Falmulqiyati thikra

And those [angels] who deliver a message.

عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا

AAuthran aw nuthra

As justification or warning,

إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٌ

Innama tooAAadoona lawaqiAA

Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.

فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ

Fa-itha annujoomu tumisat

So when the stars are obliterated

وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتْ

Wa-itha assamao furijat

And when the heaven is opened

وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ

Wa-itha aljibalu nusifat

And when the mountains are blown away

وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ

Wa-itha arrusulu oqqitat

And when the messengers' time has come...¹

لِأَىِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ

Li-ayyi yawmin ojjilat

For what Day was it postponed?¹

لِيَوْمِ ٱلْفَصْلِ

Liyawmi alfasl

For the Day of Judgement.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ

Wama adraka ma yawmualfasl

And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe,¹ that Day, to the deniers.

أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Alam nuhliki al-awwaleen

Did We not destroy the former peoples?

ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

Thumma nutbiAAuhumu al-akhireen

Then We will follow them with the later ones.

كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

Kathalika nafAAalu bilmujrimeen

Thus do We deal with the criminals.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍ مَّهِينٍ

Alam nakhluqkum min ma-in maheen

Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ

FajaAAalnahu fee qararinmakeen

And We placed it in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb]

إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

Ila qadarin maAAloom

For a known extent.

فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْقَـٰدِرُونَ

Faqadarna faniAAma alqadiroon

And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا

Alam najAAali al-arda kifata

Have We not made the earth a container

أَحْيَآءً وَأَمْوَٰتًا

Ahyaan waamwata

Of the living and the dead?

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ شَـٰمِخَـٰتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُم مَّآءً فُرَاتًا

WajaAAalna feeha rawasiyashamikhatin waasqaynakum maan furata

And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Intaliqoo ila ma kuntumbihi tukaththiboon

[They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.

ٱنطَلِقُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِى ثَلَـٰثِ شُعَبٍ

Intaliqoo ila thillinthee thalathi shuAAab

Proceed to a shadow [of smoke] having three columns.

لَّا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ

La thaleelin walayughnee mina allahab

[But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."

إِنَّهَا تَرْمِى بِشَرَرٍ كَٱلْقَصْرِ

Innaha tarmee bishararin kalqasr

Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,

كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَـٰلَتٌ صُفْرٌ

Kaannahu jimalatun sufr

As if they were yellowish [black] camels.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ

Hatha yawmu la yantiqoon

This is a Day they will not speak,

وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ

Wala yu/thanu lahum fayaAAtathiroon

Nor will it be permitted for them to make an excuse.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَـٰكُمْ وَٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

Hatha yawmu alfasli jamaAAnakumwal-awwaleen

This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.

فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ

Fa-in kana lakum kaydun fakeedoon

So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى ظِلَـٰلٍ وَعُيُونٍ

Inna almuttaqeena fee thilalinwaAAuyoon

Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs

وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

Wafawakiha mimma yashtahoon

And fruits from whatever they desire,

كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimakuntum taAAmaloon

[Being told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

كُلُوا۟ وَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجْرِمُونَ

Kuloo watamattaAAoo qaleelan innakummujrimoon

[O disbelievers], eat and enjoy yourselves a little; indeed, you are criminals.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرْكَعُوا۟ لَا يَرْكَعُونَ

Wa-itha qeela lahumu irkaAAoo layarkaAAoon

And when it is said to them, "Bow [in prayer]," they do not bow.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Woe, that Day, to the deniers.

فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Fabi-ayyi hadeethin baAAdahuyu/minoon

Then in what statement after it [i.e., the Qur’ān] will they believe?

Translation: Sahih International
